Golf in Piedmont - Region of the Month

Piedmont is a region located in northern Italy and is home to some of the best natural and mountain landscapes in Italy and in the Alps region.

Its golfing tradition began very early on, when Italy only had a couple of golf courses nationwide - when the foundations of Castelconturbia Golf Club (the first golf course in Piedmont) were set in 1898.

Let’s briefly explore this wonderful region together:

Piedmont Curiosities and History

Piedmont does not have a unified history as only later took on a defined regional planning, being marked for centuries by a political and territorial fragmentation.

The history of this region has its roots in prehistory, where, on the shores of Lake Maggiore, settled one of the most important prehistoric civilizations, that of Golasecca.

Piedmont has played a key role in the history of the unification of Italy, being part of the House of Savoy or Piedmont-Sardinia, who played a key role in the events that led to the unification of Italy in 1861. At the turn of the twentieth century began the industrial development of the region, which became the leader of the automotive industry, mechanical and film.

Asti: This sweet wine has a straw yellow color with golden nuances and a fine and persistent perlage. Countless aromas stand out, such as white musk, sage, pear, apricot, honey, roses, orange peel, and orange blossom. The palate is fragrant, fresh, and purely sweet.

Barolo: Barolo wines are revered for their complexity, structure and ability to age. Barolo wines are often characterized by aromas of roses, tar, truffles and dried herbs. They possess the perfect balance of tannins, acidity, and body, making them a perfect accompaniment to the rich food of Piedmont.

Nebbiolo: Nebbiolo makes wines with high levels of acidity and tannins, making them a little tight and austere in their youth, but providing enough backbone to make them particularly ageworthy. The wines show cherry, plum and strawberry fruit, backed by floral notes like rose and violet, as well as leather, licorice and herbs.
