Campania italian region of the month

Golf in Campania - Region of the Month

Campania is mountainous and hilly, the Neapolitan Apennines in the extreme east giving way to the slightly lower uplands of the Matese and Picentini mountains and the Cilento mountain area extending to the coast in the south.

This region is rich in culture, especially with regard to food, music, architecture, and archaeological and ancient sites—such as Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplontis, Paestum, Aeclanum, Stabiae, and Velia.

Let us walk you through it!

Campania Curiosities and History

Campania boasts a rich tapestry of history, woven over thousands of years. Ancient Greek influences are evident in the founding of cities like Cuma and Naples, laying the groundwork for a vibrant culture.  The region has witnessed the rise and fall of empires, from the Romans who valued its fertile lands, to the Lombards and Normans who each left their imprint.

Through it all, Naples has endured as a prominent center, flourishing as a Renaissance cultural and economic powerhouse.  The Middle Ages brought shifting power dynamics, with Byzantines, Lombards, and Normans vying for control.  Naples even weathered periods of Spanish rule and popular uprisings.

By the 19th century, the winds of unification swept through Italy, culminating in Garibaldi's capture of Naples in 1860.  The 20th century ushered in social and economic change, and today Campania is beloved for its stunning landscapes, mouthwatering cuisine, and haunting archaeological treasures like Pompeii and Herculaneum.
